Thank you, Ann! I think every time I edited the poem the type of sorrow changed according to what I was feeling and experiencing at the time. It kind of speaks to the malleability of language and memory. And yes, my friends do some wonderful work. I saw them on Zoom this morning for a workshop. :-)

I can relate, having suffered something of the sort with my own children. But I thought it was about sorrow for the loss of a child when I read it.
