Thank you for this! I'm going to see if I can find a copy of Miller's adaptation. A little historical note (which you probably already know) in response to your rhetorical question about the dramatic reading at Easter. When theater was banned entirely in the Roman Empire, it crept back first through the Easter liturgy. But as far as I know, it was the resurrection scene. Then it spilled onto the church steps, and into the square. It wasn't a passion play until later. (And that has its whole can of worms.) I really love your comparing Enemy of the People to Antigone. I have never thought about that. I'll quote you with my students. (They're Norwegian, so drawing the parallel will help them look at Antigone.)

I wrote a paper in high school about Ibsen's A Doll House many many years ago. I don't remember much about what I wrote. It's nice to be reintroduced. A blessed holy week to you and your family.
